What brought you to do this work – your why / your values?
Although it may take time to realize and/or accept, we all have our gift. That thing that we’re really great at and we thoroughly enjoy. Yes, that gift. Smile and reflect on yours for a second. My gift has always been a deep curiosity for the functions and abilities of money. At an early age, I understood that I would be paid for good grades, so I consistently brought home straight As to ensure I received top dollar. In middle school, I was introduced to the concept of supply and demand, when I developed the hustle of selling snacks/candy to my peers. In high school, through an internship with the Detroit Summer Finance Institute, I was exposed to a much broader financial world through the lenses of an investment banking firm and a large commercial bank. As I grew, my love and longing for financial education grew as well.
I believe in empowering others and being a living example of compassion and care. I am passionate about leading people to empower themselves through financial education, financial freedom, financial security, and financial growth.
What should someone know about you?
I am a proud Detroit native and alumnus of Detroit Public Schools. I earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from Howard University in Washington D.C. While studying Finance at Howard, I fed my love for financial education through internships the United States Department of Treasury, the National Credit Union Administration, the Michigan Black Chamber of Commerce, and Quicken Loans. I also formerly served as the Region 3 Youth Board Member on the NAACP National Board of Directors for two terms. I served one term as the President of the NAACP Michigan State Conference Youth and College Division.
What professional experiences help you thrive in your work with NSIA?
I began my financial services career as a Mutual Fund Service Representative for Eaton Vance (acquired by Morgan Stanley) in Boston, MA. I’ve remained in the Registered Investment Advisor arena since 2019, serving as a Client Service Associate for multi-billion-dollar assets under management RIAs, Eaton Vance WaterOak Advisors (acquired by CI Financial) and Mariner Wealth Advisors.
At Mariner I was promoted to Associate Wealth Advisor and worked alongside a small team of three to manage more than $269 million in assets under management. I’ve been growing and evolving into an advisor since I was a child.
I love what I do and I’m excited to help you! My goal is to help you attain your goals. We can do it together.
