What brought you to do this work – your why / your values?
I believe money is a tool—one of many—that can be used to build a more just and beautiful world. I love supporting institutions and families to align their financial resources with their values, strategically leverage their unique strengths and resources to achieve their goals, and feel empowered and joyful while making creative and bold decisions together. Finance and money was often a topic surrounded by silence, tension and misinformation in my childhood and I am perpetually drawn to people who want to bring light, integrity, lightness, and love into this work. I find that here at Nubian Square Investment Advisors.
What should someone know about you?
I have been working in philanthropy and nonprofits from my home in Denver, Colorado for over 20 years, creating giving plans for hundreds of individuals and groups with assets ranging from $100 to $100M. I introduced finance and investing to my skillset beginning in 2019, and am passionate about capital strategies that are local and based in warm and accountable relationships, while honoring our global interdependence and the power of coordination across distance and difference.
I’m an accidental master bicycle mechanic – I love teaching people to use tools and fix things with their hands – and I live in a big shared house with my friends and chosen family.
What professional experiences help you thrive in your work with NSIA?
I began organizing with Resource Generation (RG) in 2005, leading nationally-coordinated issue campaigns, resource mobilization efforts, and personally-transformational programming for people with class privilege. I served on the RG national board of directors from 2019-2025, building cross-class and cross-sector partnerships to further the organizational goal of equitable distribution of land, wealth and power. I served on the board of the Chinook Fund from 2014 to 2020, supporting my local community foundation in evolving our community-led grantmaking and values-aligned investing strategies. I currently serve on the Steering Crew of the Rad Planners network, am a facilitator of cross-class multiracial Giving Projects, and am a member of the Colorado Solidarity Fund investment club and the Denver Foundation LGBTQ+ Giving Circle.
I attended George Washington University, New School University, and the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México and cherish the education I’ve received from friends, mentors and activists.
